Party hackery axes Hackett campaign
Paul Hackett is out of the Senate race, having been betrayed by the gutless "leaders" of the Democratic party.
When are these imbeciles going to get it? Politics as usual are not going to win it for them in 06. The people are sick of both parties. They should be supporting candidates like Hackett, they should be begging them to run and fighting tooth and nail for verifiable paper trail ballots so they stand a chance of winning against technological malfeasance.
I've been predicting for months that this will be a big year for third party candidates and I haven't seen much out of the Dems so far to convince me otherwise. The Dems already shaky base is going to fracture over these sort of obvious party machine machinations and it's going to hand the Congress right back to the GOP in November. What fools.
"This is an extremely disappointing decision that I feel has been forced on me," said Mr. Hackett, whose announcement comes two days before the state's filing deadline for candidates. He said he was outraged to learn that party leaders were calling his donors and asking them to stop giving and said he would not enter the Second District Congressional race.Excuse my profanity, but the Democratic Party has become overrun with a bunch of fucking idiots. Here we have a straight talking, adorable, Iraq veteran who could totally stage an upset win and these jerks are playing politics as usual with him? If they wanted him to run for Congress, they should have made it clear before he declared. Now they want him to go back on his word and join the Congressional race because everybody does it? That's the fucking problem. Both parties think they just break their word when it's convenient and the electorate won't remember or won't care.
"For me, this is a second betrayal," Mr. Hackett said. "First, my government misused and mismanaged the military in Iraq, and now my own party is afraid to support candidates like me."

I really don't see your complaint here. The Dems are trying to regain Congress and they think Brown has a better chance of winning than Hackett does. He has raised far more money, for one. Do you expect them to lose the seat out of some sense of gratitude? Politics is a tough business. Control of Congress could come down to one election. There is no room for sentimentality.
My complaint is the way they did it (and Hackett had a good chance of winning if they make sure the machines are rigged. Their publicly disclosed machinations to cut the rug out from under him make the party look like idiots and power hungry cutthroats. In other words, politicians as usual.
The party needs to decide if it has the balls to take a chance on progressives. If they took a principled stand and stuck to it, no matter what the GOP says, they'd stand a chance.
The conventional wisdom approach is a one way ticket to oblivion. Politics as usual is not going to cut it this year. Mark my words, if the Dems don't wise up, you're going to see a mass exodus to third parties or a huge sit-out.
People are too numb from the relentless shock and awe scandal-a-thon to be scared anymore. Hold your nose voting is over. Let the bloody GOP take it again if only to make the point. By 08 the electorate will be so disgusted, they won't win again for a long time. But the Dems shouldn't think they're going to get a free ride.
