Building a better Democrat

A lot of people have been remarking a developing trend among the GOP these days. It seems they're embracing their inner populist and trying to rebrand themselves as the people's party -- in other words, as old style Democrats, only better. Rather ironic since the Democrats have been trying to rebrand themselves as better Republicans since 1994. EJ Dionne posts a fascinating column on the phenomenon featuring a recent breakfast date with Rick Santorum. As Dionne notes, "When one side starts making the other side's argument, you don't need to be a pollster to know which belief system is in the ascendancy."

It's going to be an interesting summer.

I find it hard to believe Santorum could be elected to dog catcher at this point but I've to underestimate the cluelessness of the electorate.

Political Wire was touting a Rasmussen poll showing Casey's lead over Santorum down to 6 points. Now Rasmussen's poll is definitely biased - when every other poll was shoing Bush's apporval ratings in the 30's, Rasmussen still had him in the 45%-47% range. But the poll made me wonder if Santorum is as dead as most of us on the left hope he is. He's got a lot of money, he's one dirty, sonuvabitch, and you never know what can happen come election day.

Still I'm hoping both Santorum and Curt Weldon go down this year.

I have a long list of those I'd to see go down at the ballot box but Ricky is the top five.
