Rape, literal and figurative

I'm long on outrage today but short on time so it's quick takes this morning. In today's blood boiling post, Riverbend describes the repeated rape of an innocent Iraqi woman and gets the quote of the day on what George has wrought in Iraq.
Let me clear it up for any moron with lingering doubts: It’s worse. It’s over. You lost. You lost the day your tanks rolled into Baghdad to the cheers of your imported, American-trained monkeys. You lost every single family whose home your soldiers violated. You lost every sane, red-blooded Iraqi when the Abu Ghraib pictures came out and verified your atrocities behind prison walls as well as the ones we see in our streets. You lost when you brought murderers, looters, gangsters and militia heads to power and hailed them as Iraq’s first democratic government. You lost when a gruesome execution was dubbed your biggest accomplishment. You lost the respect and reputation you once had. You lost more than 3000 troops. That is what you lost America. I hope the oil, at least, made it worthwhile.
Unfortunately, it didn't. There's nothing we could possibly gain from this debacle that would balance the scales against the injustices we have inflicted on the people of Iraq.

Interesting Lester. Your prejudices often surprise me. I don't read her that much but I've read enough to think she's not just a baathist brat. I find her style very genuine and while it's no doubt colored by her history, it strikes me as honest.

Thanks, Libby. Powerful post. Ironically, just yesterday I watched a documentary on Darfur called The Next Killing Field. Those women are being raped and beaten by the thousands. It is absolutely heartbreaking and the world stands by and does absolutely nothing but debate if it is appropriate or not to use the word "genocide" when referring to the slaughter there by government and militia troops.

It drives me crazy Brian that politicians and pundits spend so much time on syntax and so little time on solutions.

Careful Lester, you're becoming inured to the Bush doctrine. There are ways to deal with problems short of invasion and occupation.

if we do a "good" war, we'll end up having to do another Iraq. if you have welfare ytou end up getting warfare. Better to jsut destroy the government completely

I don't know how you can say that Lester. That's exactly what got us into this mess in Iraq in the first place.

what do you mean? my point is if we spend money on liberal things, the republicans will spend money on republican things. namely stupid wars. so lets just all agree not to spend any money

I don't think I understand what we're talking about anymore Lester. We can't spend no money. What we have to do is decide where to spend it and where not to.
