Ahmadilooniness

By Libby

I read this and I have to ask, are we sure that Fred Thompson isn't really Michelle Malkin in drag?
"It's an insult to the America people and the civilized world," Mr. Thompson said. "He should not be allowed within miles of Ground Zero. In fact he shouldn't be allowed in the United States of America."

I mean has anyone seen the two of them in the same room together, because it sure sounds like something our relentlessly malicious Ms. Malkin would say. Meanwhile, Josh Marshall has the appropriate response.
A president with some dignity and sense of the greatness of his country would say, good he should go there. Maybe he'll learn something about us and our loss.

That was my first thought. The laying of the wreath thing was rather over the top but outside of the impossible security considerations, so what if he wants to visit the site like every other tourist in NYC. As if his using the site for an political photo-op is any more insulting to the dead than when Bush or Rudy do it?

If we were truly striving for peace in the Middle East, Bush would be graciously taking him there himself to demonstrate he isn't afraid of the little loudmouth. It would be the diplomatic thing to do. In fact it would be the ballsy thing to do. That is if you were trying to acheive peace instead of trying to drum up a cause for war.

It's useful to remember that the hijackers were Saudis, not Iranians and Bush has entertained the Saudi royal family more than once in the intervening six years. Bin Laden is Saudi. Bush's utter lack of statesmanship with Iran makes him look the cowardly boor and leaves Ahmadinejad looking almost reasonable in comparison.

Why the wingnuts would want to amplify that impression and why our presidential candidates on both sides of the fence would want to imitate wingnuttia outrage at the expense of a reasoned response, is beyond me. These people need to get out of the beltway more. I think the Kristol meth is rotting their brains.

See also: Reagan + Philadelphia.

Was that a potential "Learning Experience"... or merely a "shout-out" to his "racist supporters"?

The brouhaha about Ahmadinejad is bizarre beyond belief. So many lies told about the Iranians, so much fearmongering, and now Faux is even trying to tie Iran in with 9/11.
The fascists and their brownshirts can't stop themselves from looking and sounding like psychotic freaks.
It's terminally pathetic.

Fletch I'm not sure what one has to do with the other. I don't think the Ahmadioutrage is racist so much as it's alarmist with an eye towards justifying a bomb strike.

Nolo - that's the thing of course. If we're to hold a whole country responsible for the acts of a crazy president, then I would say Americans have no leg to stand on. Bush has killed more people in the last four years than the Ahmadilooney has.

the GOP are trying to juggle this "outrage" with the now decades old petreaus ad outrage.

meanwhile, neither affects my life in the least.

the party of limited government wants the government to be involved in everything!

Nothing is spontaneous, but even though I'm not sure who fostered this latest tactical outrage, I'm sure it serves a purpose by distracting us from outrage at our government and focusing it on a foreigner.

Good reminder Lester that most people probably don't even care. I suspect there's a fair number who don't even know who Ahmadinejad is.

Fogg, clearly it functions quite well as a distraction factor from the bad news in Iraq, not to mention all the scandals at home.

Fletch I'm not sure what one has to do with the other.

It's simple.

Was Reagan's visit to Philadelphia, Mississippi to begin his 1980 presidential campaign...

1)"simply another campaign visit",

2)or, was it a 'signal' of "absolute proof that Ron Reagan hated blacks"-- and, furthermore - a "shout-out" to all the 'racist' Republicans?

Read the links-- most of the 'left' seem to tilt towards the latter explanation...

Likewise-- among the supporters of 'Ahmadamnnutjob' -- will this "wreath laying" be considered just another "act of peace and reconciliation"-- or as a "shout-out" to his brethren that even AmeriKKKa cannot possibly restrain a Muslim who blames Israel for 9/11?

I don't think the Ahmadioutrage is racist...

That's only because them damn Zionists certainly deserve everything they receive...

Fletch, you really need to get over the anger thing. You're reading what you want to hear, not what I wrote.

Of course, the GOP grabbed a lot of Southern Dems with racist code talk. It's silly to pretend otherwise and although a lot of the anti-Muslim outrage is racially based, in the instant matter, on the ground zero visit, this is focused on personifying "the Enemy" in the body of one man.

The claims that those of us who aren't willing to get hysterical over one more nutjob wandering around Manhattan are somehow cheering supporters of this lunatic is specious and deliberately obtuse. I said no such thing and you know it. And neither have most of "the left."

The guy is a creep, but he's not the worst creep we've ever entertained in this country. Frankly, you don't sound so much different than he does. He hates Jews. You hate him.

The appropriate response is to be the bigger man and be more gracious, not to try to be a even bigger jerk.
