Water guns are the new tire swing

I'm not spending so much time on Twitter anymore. The whole high school cafeteria vibe has been starting to get to me. It was especially bad on Friday when Ed Henry from CNN started tweeting about the Biden's pool party that Glenzilla talks about here.

The short answer to Glen's question is -- yes. It's just as disturbing, if not more so, that our media, who are supposed to be watchdogging the government for us, are instead frolicking on the Veep's lawn and posting self-satisfied tweets about how very privileged they are to be playing water gun commando with the powers that be. I would quibble about his characterization of the WHPC as courtiers though. More like court jesters if you ask me.

Courtiers is more appropriate. Historical court jesters were known for their freedom of speech and their willingness to criticize the powerful and the empowered, to engage in forms of speech and criticism that all others feared.

Good point anon. I guess it's the clown angle that makes me think more of jesters. And how often did the jesters actually mock the royalty who employed them?

Nothing new, though. Remember when George Bush had all of those barbecues and the Villagers all showed up to drink margaritas and suck ribs with the POTUS? I mean seriously, that was like 10 years ago. So we've long known that our media abrogated its responsibility to COVER the White House in favor of "access" ... and the fact that they're so damn proud that they're Tweeting about it just shows how clueless they are. And how irrelevant.

The media is dead and oh yeah, let's have a blogger ethics panel about it ...
