Justice DeLayed

Having spent some 20 years in the business, I can testify the wheels of justice turn slowly, thus it was only today, after five years of the customary continuances, the BugMan, Tom DeLay was convicted "on felony charges of political money laundering."
DeLay faces two to 20 years in prison on a conspiracy charge and five to 99 years or life on a money laundering charge. DeLay remains free on bail, with sentencing tentatively set for Dec. 20. [...]

DeLay and two political aides were accused of arranging to trade $190,000 in corporate money with the Republican National Committee in 2002 in exchange a like amount of money raised from individual donations that the RNC gave to seven specified Texas candidates. Texas law bars the use of corporate contributions in candidate elections.
I didn't know Texas had that rule. Hadn't noticed that it's vigorously enforced either.

Anyway, the tentative sentencing is sort of a joke. He will, of course, appeal the conviction. I'm willing to guess it will be another 3-5 years at least, before a final judgment is rendered. By then no one will remember what the big deal was and he'll probably get off with a meaningless fine and probation.

I will anxiously await your condemnation of Charles Rangel. He is an individual who is totally corrupt and so completely devoid of even a shred of honor that he refuses to resign. He is a typical example of Democrats who, when caught committing crimes or being outright dishonest, continue to claim the moral high ground in helping the little guy.

Pretty short memory there. I posted at least a couple of times about Rangel's dishonesty at DetNews. But he WAS re-elected by his constituents. AND, last I saw, the Congressional Ethics committee was looking at sanctions against him. For Chrissake, Obama himself asked him to resign. Dems don't make excuses for corruption like GOPers do.

Damn, I'm getting slow on the draw in my old age. Perhaps I can still make the point that an accusation makes the other party's guy guilty, but a conviction of your own politician is "just political."
They're still trying to tell us the Nixon thing was "just political" -- at least those who've heard of Nixon and Agnew. It's all about short memory cause short memories make for clean consciences.

And of course, no matter how the Republicans sell and give away your birthright for a bag of coins, they'll always have Charlie Wrangel to point to and say "you're just as bad."
